Shades of Morning by Marlo Schalesky

Check this one out. I don't have a giveaway copy, but it sounds like a page-turner from this Christy Award-winner!

SHADES OF MORNING

By Marlo Schalesky

Published by Waterbrook-Multnomah Publishers

Shades of Morning is Marlo’s third “Love Story with a Twist” (think a
Nicolas Sparks type love story with an M. Night Shyamalan type twist!).

A BIT ABOUT THE BOOK:

Marnie Wittier has life just where she wants it. Quiet. Peaceful. No drama. A long way away from her past. In the privacy of her home, she fills a box with slips of paper, scribbled with her regrets, sins, and sorrows. But that’s nobody else’s business. Her bookstore/coffee shop patrons, her employees, her friends from church - they all think she’s the very model of compassion and kindness. Then Marnie’s past creeps into her present when her estranged sister dies and makes Marnie guardian of her fifteen-year-old son—a boy Marnie never knew existed. And when Emmit arrives, she discovers he has Down syndrome - and that she’s woefully unprepared to care for him. What’s worse, she has to deal with Taylor Cole, her sister’s attorney, a man Marnie once loved—and abandoned. As Emmit—and Taylor—work their way into her heart, Marnie begins to heal. But when pieces of her dismal past surface again, she must at last face the scripts of paper in her box, all the regrets and sorrows. Can she do it? Or will she run again?

FROM ROMANTIC TIMES:

Top Pick! 4 ½ Stars! “Schalesky has a knack for weaving a surprising spiritual twist into her tales. The touching plot will make readers examine how they deal with past regrets, and how God moves them through it. A not-to-be-missed, stunning novel!”

A BIT ABOUT MARLO:

Marlo Schalesky is the award winning author of numerous books, including her latest novel Shades of Morning, which combines a love story with a surprise ending twist. Marlo’s other books include the Christy Award winning Beyond the Night, and its sequel If Tomorrow Never Comes. Marlo is also the author of nearly 700 articles, the mother of 5 young children, and holds her Masters in Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary. When she’s not changing diapers, doing laundry, or writing books, Marlo loves sipping Starbucks white mochas, reading the New Testament in Greek, and talking about finding the deep places of God in everyday life.

Queen of Hearts by K. Dawn Byrd

Here's a fresh voice from a new author. Check it out!

Daphne Dean is proud to be serving her country stateside during WWII as a reporter and an Office of Strategic Services operative. When the photograph she takes of the crowd at a murder scene places her on the mob's hit list, she's forced into hiding in a vacant mental asylum in the middle of nowhere with terrifying secrets of its own.

Daphne believed herself to still be in love with her ex-fiancée, Kenneth, until she spends several days locked away in the asylum with Vito, the mob boss' son. Can she put the terrifying events that occurred there behind her and allow herself to pursue a relationship with Vito? Or, will she return to Kenneth who has turned his back on his country by becoming a draft dodger and a black market racketeer? One thing's for sure, it won't matter if she can't escape the mental institution alive.

Bio:
K. Dawn Byrd is an author of inspirational romance. She holds a masters degree in professional counseling from Liberty University that she believes gives her better insight into the minds, feelings and emotions of individuals, which helps her to better understand her characters and develop them more fully. Queen of Hearts, a WWII romantic suspense was released on April 1 and is now a bestseller. Killing Time, a contemporary romantic suspense will release August 1, both with Desert Breeze Publishing.

K. Dawn Byrd is an avid blogger and gives away several books per week on her blog at www.kdawnbyrd.blogspot.com, most of which are signed by the authors. Her blog spotlights not only the books, but also the authors to give readers more information about their favorite authors.

When not reading or writing, K. Dawn Byrd enjoys spending time with her husband of 14 years, walking their dogs beside a gorgeous lake near her home, and plotting the next story waiting to be told.

Reviews:

This was a great book full of many twists, turns and lots of intrigue. Just when you think you have it all figured out. . . you don't! Aside from the general plot twists, I also enjoyed the setting of the old asylum. I could see the sharp contrasts in the old building with its beautiful decor and its dark hallways and creepy basement. The author also went out of her way to make the details of the book historically accurate with references to the homefront experience during WWII (e.g. rationing and the black market). I highly recommend this book and look forward to more books to come from K. Dawn Byrd.

Queen of Hearts, written by K. Dawn Byrd, is full of mystery, suspense, surprise, romance with a flirt of intimacy, murder, and a character that reminds us of the power of prayer. It is as well written as any best seller currently available. You will be on edge, as relationships unfold and the truth from the past surfaces. I look forward to future works of K. Dawn Byrd.

I would be highly surprised to occupy that position, considering the competition, but I'm honored to be among the finalists in such company.

Here are the finalists in the inspirational category:

Protecting Her Child by Debby Giusti
Shadows on the River by Linda Hall
Dreaming of Home by Glynna Kaye
